A Hippotherapy Session
The main therapy taking place is the movement of the horse. The horses pelvis and spine are aligned similarly to that of a human body. As the horse walks back and forth they produce the same "sway" motion as a person does who has a relatively normal stride.
This concept is explained further in the video to the right from the Shea Center, 2011. Typically occupational therapists and physical therapists can both be trained to work with patients for Hippotherapy. OT's and PT's can gain their license through national licensing companies such as PATH International. |
