An Equestrian-Assisted Therapy
(The Pet Wiki, 2012)
|
Equine assisted therapy can involve any contact with the horse from riding, to grooming and anything in between. Some patients find therapy in leading the horse as another person rides. This can teach the patient how to be a leader and direct their own personal lives for good.
"Often the mental health professional leading the session will set goals for the client to complete, such as leading the horse to a designated area or putting a halter on the horse. The client will complete the task to the best of their ability and then discuss the thought process, ideas and problem solving used to complete the task." (Wikipedia, 2015). |
Horse therapy helps patients build an emotional connection to their horse simply through being around their horse.
